Function
What does a Strekker do in shipbuilding?
As a Strekker, you are responsible for machining and forming steel and other materials used in shipbuilding. The steel used to build ships must be perfectly formed, and as a Strekker, you make sure this happens. You work with heavy machinery to bend, stretch and shape steel plates and other materials so that they fit precisely into the ship. This is essential work because the materials form the basis of the ship being built.
The work of a Strekker is physically demanding, but you will receive plenty of guidance and be trained internally to learn this trade. Together with a regular colleague, you make sure that the materials are put into the right shape and meet all technical specifications.
What will you do?
- Machining, bending and stretching steel sheets and other materials with special machines.
- Work according to technical drawings and specifications to customize materials for shipbuilding.
- Working with a regular colleague to carry out work efficiently.
- Working with tools such as oxyfuel hand-held tools and electric angle grinders (experience in these is a plus).
- Ensure a safe and neat workplace, working accurately and according to guidelines.
Job Requirements
Your profile:
- Preferably have an LTS education or similar technical training.
- You have a technical understanding and are willing to learn the Strekker trade.
- At least English speaking; Dutch is a plus.
- Flexible for overtime, shift work and occasional Saturday work.
- You are physically fit and able to perform heavy work.
- You can collaborate and communicate well with colleagues.
- Experience with oxyfuel hand burning tools or an angle grinder is an advantage.
- Living within a 50 kilometer radius of Papendrecht, or willing to relocate.

- Full training to Strekker, with the possibility of advancement to Specialist (scale G, Collective Bargaining Agreement Metalelektro).
- Annual contract with the prospect of a permanent position with good performance.
- Professional training such as VCA, and additional training.
- Opportunity to participate in company first aid (BHV).
- Working conditions according to the CLA Metalelektro: 27 vacation days + 13 ADV days.
- Travel reimbursement of €0.23 per kilometer.
